Training Rabbit

training-rabbitTraining rabbits need not to be forced or your rabbit will not follow you. Be gentle as possible. Just like young children, rabbits also need time to learn new things we teaching them. Do not grab the rabbit, instead pick him up as gentle as possible and try to slowly stroke his soft fur, through this, he may feels that you are very caring to him.

If only rabbits could communicate, they would love to speak out for themselves. But that’s what they were created for, to be pet and love by us. So do not pressure them on doing new things immediately.

Here are some tips you might use to improve in training rabbit:

1. Spay / Neuter: The first step. Make sure that he / she is spayed or neutered to avoid frequent pregnancy. Female rabbits are prone to uterine cancer.

2. Get the right litter box. Choose the right size of litter box for you rabbit. Do not force a tiny rabbit to jump in a big box or a large bunny in a tiny one.

3. Be sure to use only organic litter box. Never use clumping cat litters for your pet rabbits. This could cause blockage in his respiratory system and intestinal when eaten.

4. After you set up the litter box, use a small gate to enclose you rabbit inside it. Make sure that you provide enough food and water and even toys for your pet rabbit.

5. Putting hay or oats on his litter box often comes in handy.

6. Clean frequently your rabbit’s litter box at least twice a week.

7. Put some dropping from your rabbit on his litter box so he could be familiarize the smell on his litter box.

8. Praise the rabbit for using his litter box by stroking his fur.

9. Understand what motivates him. Do not pushed or forced your rabbit to do things immediately.

10. Devote plenty of time in training. Spend at least 30 minutes in training your rabbits every day.

11. Use your rabbit’s favorite treats. But first, check with your vet.

12. Get your rabbit in position for training.

13. Give your rabbit his favorite treat immediately after he performs your request.

14. Reinforce the training as necessary.

Though giving treats to your rabbit would help, overeating could lead to obesity and that’s a big problem. In case your rabbit won’t do what you want him to do, do not scold, shout or even say ‘no’ because these behaviors could only make your rabbit more withdrawn and rebellious. Don’t expect your pet rabbit to do the things he learned from his training rabbit program all the time. Always respect your rabbit’s independence. For example, if your rabbit squirms while you are holding her, let the poor soft, cuddly creature go.
